Beaches Open

The Nassau County Department of Health is allowing the following 10 beaches on the North Shore and 1 beach on the South Shore to reopen, effective today, June 22, 2009.

North Shore Beaches

Bar Beach

Centre Island Bay

Centre Island Sound

Creek Club

Laurel Hollow Beach

Piping Rock Beach Club

Ransom Beach

Roosevelt Beach

Stehli Beach

Tappen Beach

South Shore Beach

Hewlett Point Beach

These beaches had been closed as a precautionary measure due to storm water runoff.

Crescent Beach in the City of Glen Cove and Philip Healey Beach in Massapequa remain closed due to elevated bacteria.

For information, call weekdays, 9:00 A.M.– 4:45 P.M. at 227-9717.

The 2 beaches on the South Shore and 6 beaches on the North Shore listed below are closed already as they are currently not operating Monday through Friday.

On the South Shore in Nassau County:

Island Park Beach

North Shore Beaches:

Lattingtown Beach                   

Morgan Sound

Pyrbil Beach

Sea Cliff Village Beach

Soundside Beach

West Harbor Beach

As a result of this heavy rain, residents are urged to remove or empty standing water from children’s toys, flower pots, garbage cans or any object that can hold water.  This will help reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home.
