Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) announced that the Nassau County Bar Association is offering a free, informational meeting with volunteer immigration lawyers to address the new Temporary Protected Status (TPS) rules for our Haitian residents. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Nassau County Bar Association, 15th and West Streets in Mineola. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 747-4070. The information will be offered in English and Creole. Questions will be answered in English and Creole.
The rules have changed and you may still be eligible to apply for TPS if you arrived in the United States by January 12, 2011. If you already have TPS, you must re-register and there are important deadlines for first time registration as well as re-registration. If you have been arrested in the United States, be sure to bring your record of all convictions from the Court (Certificate of Deposition). A lawyer will review your records to tell you if you are eligible to apply for TPS.
