BLCA National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Forum Comes to County Legislature

In recognition of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, earlier this month the Black Leadership Commission on AIDS (BLCA) of Nassau County held a forum to address HIV/AIDS in Nassau County. The guest speaker for this event, held in the Legislative Chambers of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building, was the Hon. C. Virginia Fields, former Manhattan Borough President and the current president and CEO of the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS. Ms. Fields called upon every elected official to make a commitment to ensure that resources are allocated to the African American community in a fair way to confront this disease in our communities.

Legislator Roger Corbin (D-Westbury), the Legislative and Public Policy Chair of BLCA, said, “Nassau County BLCA’s mission is to inform, coordinate and organize the volunteer efforts of the indigenous Black leadership, including clergy, elected officials, medical practitioners, business professionals, social policy experts and the media to meet the challenge of fighting HIV/AIDS in our local communities. We need more domestic support for HIV/AIDS - BLCA’s work is ongoing and will continue to be, so that we can ensure services are received by those that need it most”
