Corbin Announces Road Improvement Plans, Other Projects for the Second District in 2007 Capital Budget
Nassau County Deputy Presiding Officer Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) recently joined with Majority lawmakers in approving the $202 million capital improvement plan for 2007. The funds will go towards the improvement of the county’s infrastructure, including parks, roads, and public safety.
“By investing money in things that will improve the community, we are investing in our future,” Corbin said.“We cannot allow the infrastructure of this County to deteriorate.Capital improvements are imperative to the quality of life our residents enjoy.”
The Second Legislative District will see a number of capital improvements, including the rehabilitation of several Nassau Community College Buildings, the design and construction of a building to house the Nunley’s Carousel, and the design of a 20,000-seat stadium at Mitchel Park.
Road improvements will be made on Peninsula Boulevard at Clinton and Henry Street in Hempstead, a heavily traveled intersection that becomes extremely congested during peak travel hours. This project would widen Peninsula Boulevard between Washington Street and Front Street, by lengthening the left turn lane at Henry Street. The connection of Henry to Clinton Street will also be smoothly aligned, eliminating the need for one signal and decreasing delay time in all directions.
“I am pleased that I was able to secure funding for many projects that still need to be completed,” Corbin said.“I will continue to emphasize the importance of projects such as these in making our community a desirable place to live.”
