Corbin Wins Re-Election in 2nd Legislative District

Nassau County Deputy Presiding Officer Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) won re-election to the 2nd Legislative District seat on Tuesday, November 6 by more than 2,500 total votes.

The win, which reflected strong support for the Democratic majority’s efforts over the past six years to maintain the county’s financial health and steer it towards a steady future, maintained a 10-9 edge for the Democrats in the legislature and ensured the county executive’s agenda would continue to move forward.

“I am humbled by the continued trust and support of my constituents,” Legislator Corbin said. “I will continue to work hard for my district and to never lose sight of our local issues.”

The district covers parts of New Cassel, Westbury, and parts of East Garden City, East Meadow, Hicksville, Hempstead, Lakeview, Old Westbury, Rockville Centre, Uniondale and West Hempstead. There are 6,971 registered Republicans, 21,168 registered Democrats, and 6,566 voters in minor parties or who are unaffiliated.

During his last term in office, Legislator Corbin was instrumental in numerous road and capital improvement projects, like the widening and repaving of Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead, and co-sponsored a law prohibiting the use of motor scooters, pocket bikes and ATVs on any highway, parking lot, shopping center, parking area, sidewalk, street and other public area in the county.

Looking to the future, Legislator Corbin and his Majority colleagues will be supporting the County Executive’s initiative to address the consolidation of special taxing districts in an effort to lower property taxes.

“I will continue to fight for my district’s taxpayers against the many taxing districts that contribute to our high property taxes,” said Legislator Corbin.

A Westbury High School graduate, Corbin attended Yankton College in South Dakota on a full track & field scholarship. Following his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Air force, serving during the Vietnam War conflict. After his service he attended Pace University, majoring in business law. Now retired from New York City Off–Track Betting Corp., where he served for three decades as Branch Manager, Corbin also served as a community liaison for the North Shore Health Systems.

Corbin is happily married to his wife, Regina and they have three sons; Jason, Jarrett and Joshua, one daughter, Jeannine, one grandson Jarrett Jr. and one granddaughter Jasmine.
