Corbin Announces Westbury Business Applying for Empire Zone Status

Nassau County Deputy Presiding Officer Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) announced today that the PL Developments of New York Corporation, a Westbury pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, would be applying for Empire Zone status, thereby enabling the company to expand its state-of-the-art manufacturing environment while enjoying the benefits of residing within an Empire Zone.

Nassau County was granted an Empire Zone in January 2005, but Westbury was not selected as one of the sites eligible. Eligible sites receive tax benefits designed to help spark new private sector investment, job creation, and economic expansion. Exceptions can be made, however, for what the New York Empire Zone Program calls “Regionally Significant Projects” that lie outside the boundaries designated as the Nassau County Empire Zone.

“I hope that the application for PL Developments is approved because it would be a boon, not only to the business itself, but to the community it serves,” Corbin said. “When businesses expand and jobs are created, everybody wins. And with approval for Empire Zone privileges, the Wesbury community can only benefit.”

PL Developments manufactures and supplies over-the-counter private label pharmaceutical products. It plans to invest $4-5 million in its operation to renovate its facility and upgrade its machinery and equipment as well as create 75+ new jobs over the next five years. PL Developments is also looking to make additional facility investments, including the possible purchase of its building.
