March 20, 2001 Legislator Corbin Names Westbury Resident
2001 Woman Trailblazer Nassau County Deputy Presiding Officer Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) introduced Westbury resident, Donna Sabella, as his selection for the Women: Trailblazers of the New Millennium during a special ceremony at the Nassau County Legislature on Tuesday, March 20. Mrs. Sabella, who has been one of Nassau County's leading child advocates for the past 20 years, is currently a pre-kindergarten teacher at Dryden Street School in Westbury and serves as the New York State PTA Middle/High School Services Chairman. Working at the elementary, county, and state levels of the PTA, she has fought tirelessly to secure additional state aid for school districts in Nassau County. Mrs. Sabella has also served on the Bias Review Committee for 4th and 8th grade assessments for the New York State Department of Education, and has served as a rater for the Department of Education Blue Ribbon School Committee. She is educated as a trainer for the Second Step Violence Prevention Program; as a presenter in the National PTAs Building Successful Partnerships program; and has presented workshops throughout New York State. "Donna's work on behalf of the children in our community has been without equal" said Legislator Corbin. "In fighting for our children she has certainly paved the way, not just for women, but for everyone." Now in its fourth year, the Nassau County Legislature's "Women Trailblazers" awards ceremony looks to highlight and recognize the extraordinary work of women throughout the county. |
