Legislator Robert Troiano Honors Tina Hodge-Bowles
Nassau County Legislature’s 2011 Trailblazer of the New Millennium
Nassau County Legislator Robert Troiano (D-Westbury) second from left presents Hempstead activist Tina Hodge-Bowles with a floral bouquet and a plaque honoring her as one of this years’ Trailblazers. The award recognizes worthy women for their unique work which opened doors of opportunity for others.
Ms Hodge-Bowles serves as executive director of Operation Get Ahead, a Hempstead community-based organization dedicated to assisting local young people. OGA also includes Senior Circle, a unit which serves area residents 55 and older.
Working as a group leader, Tina provides hands-on monitoring for youthful participants. Under Tina’s leadership, OGA has provided many valuable services to community children. These services include:
Group counseling, tutoring, job preparedness, sports activities, HIV/AIDS education, and a summer camp program.
In making the presentation, Legislator Troiano said, “It gives me great pleasure to recognize the accomplishments of Tina Hodge-Bowles who has helped so many children find their way in life. She is a true community leader who never stops giving to her neighbors. Thanks to her many of our area’s young people have found the path to success.”
