Legislator Ciotti Helps Create “School Speed Zone”
at Dutch Broadway Elementary School

Nassau County Legislator John J. Ciotti collaborated with Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Ed Ambrosino to create and implement a  “School Speed Zone” along Dutch Broadway in the vicinity of the Dutch Broadway Elementary School.

In response to neighbors’ concerns about the need for improved traffic safety along his portion of Dutch Broadway, the county and town officials worked together to secure a reduced the speed limit of 20 miles per hour between the hours of 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM on school days.  Signs and pavement markings have also been added to emphasize the change.  These new traffic safety measures are meant to deter motorists from speeding through the area while children may be present.

Legislator Ciotti has also secured the installation of two electronic speed warning signs which will inform motorists traveling both eastbound and westbound if they are exceeding the posted limit.

“Many parents and school officials have expressed concerns about the perils of speeding traffic in front of the elementary school.  We believe that the creation of a ‘School Speed Zone’ will promote a safer environment for parents and children.  Many thanks to Supervisor Murray and Councilman Ambrosino for their cooperation in approving this project.  Now we can all feel a little safer,” said Legislator Ciotti.
