Legislator Ford Assists in Making Long Beach Streets Safe

Using Community Revitalization monies, Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford was successful in securing the funds for the purchase of new police equipment in the City of Long Beach that has enhanced the LBPD’s ability to alert and slow down speeding cars. Additionally, Legislator Ford donated four new bicycle helmets to the LBPD Bicycle Patrol Unit.

The “Speed Sign”, as pictured above left, does not only monitor and show speed, but can also be programmed to display important emergency messages as well as collect traffic data.

As a member of the Public Safety Committee for Nassau County, Legislator Ford felt this mobile unit was an important addition to the City of Long Beach traffic enforcement team. “This device will enhance our ability to alert and slow down speeding cars on major thoroughfares as well as the side streets throughout our town, in addition to reducing accidents,” said Legislator Ford.
