Scannell Announces Improvements to Freeport's North Main Street One Step Closer to Approval
Nassau County Legislator Joe Scannell (D-Baldwin) announced today an inter-municipal agreement between the Village of Freeport and Nassau County implementing the Nassau County Visioning Program was approved in committee and will go before the full legislature for a vote on October 22.
The Nassau County Visioning Program is a grants program aimed at fostering public participation and consensus-building for local improvements that spur economic development. The County will provide the Village of Freeport with $70,000 in grants to undertake a Visioning project on North Main Street.
“The county Visioning Program exists to make already-great communities even better, and that’s especially true here in Freeport,” Scannell said. “North Main Street, already a beehive of commerce and action, will be that much more welcoming with the use of these funds.”
The County has chosen to focus on the areas of brownfield redevelopment, development of the Nassau Hub area, addressing the needs of emerging minority communities and downtown revitalization as the highest priorities for Visioning projects.
