Scannell Announces Construction Aimed to Alleviate Flooding Problems at Milburn Creek

Nassau County Legislator Joseph Scannell (D-Baldwin) announced today that construction to alleviate the flooding problems in the Baldwin/Freeport area of Milburn Creek would begin in early April.

Construction would extend an existing culvert and connecting it to a second bulkheaded culvert that runs under Freeport High School and the Long Island Railroad tracks. During significant rainfall, water spreads over the stream’s flood plain and often onto private residential properties. Construction would increase drainage capacity and alleviate flooding.

“Our residents in this area have been suffering flooded yards and damaged property for too long, and I am proud that this construction will make their lives a little easier,” Scannell said.

The contract was awarded to A.L.A.C. Contracting Corporation of West Babylon, who submitted a winning bid of $868,686.86.
