Legislator Scannell Honors Rockville Centre Resident as 2002 Woman Trailblazer

Mineola, NY - In a special ceremony at the Nassau County Executive/Legislative Building in Mineola, Nassau County Legislator Joseph Scannell (D-Baldwin) honored Martha Krisel as the 2002 Woman Trailblazer from the 5th Legislative District. The "Women's: Trailblazers of the New Millennium" awards ceremony, now in its fifth year, highlights and recognizes the extraordinary accomplishments and contributions of women throughout the county.

"Martha has woven together a successful career, an active community presence, and the raising of her family. I cannot think of a better person to stand as a role model for young people today," said Legislator Scannell.

Martha currently serves as the Village attorney of Rockville Centre. As in-house counsel, she is responsible for representing the Mayor of Rockville Centre and Board of Trustees. She also manages outside counsel, drafts and reviews contracts, legislation, resolutions, directives and policies as well as ensuring compliance with state and federal legislation.

Martha is very active in community service as well. She has represented individuals over the age of 60 in civil matters in court and at administrative hearings and has represented children in criminal and civil proceedings. She has also coordinated legislative advocacy for not-for-profit agencies on Long Island as legislative counsel and director of public policy for the Health and Welfare Council of Nassau County. She has served and continues to serve as a member of many organizations including the Bar Association of Nassau County, the National Council of Jewish Women, South Shore Section, the Parent Teacher Association of South Side Middle School and the Child Care Council of Nassau.
