Indian American Malayalee Association Onam Festival

Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) attended the Onam Festival sponsored by Indian American Malayalee Association of Long Island on September 18th. Onam falls on the Malayalam month of Chingam, every year
(between August and September). It is a ten-day carnival for the Malayalees all over the state, country and abroad. As a
harvest festival, it is celebrated to give thanks for the bountiful yield. Legislator Bosworth said, “What a beautiful ceremony and
how wonderful it is to stop and think at this time of year about how fortunate we are and to give thanks for what we have.”
The Legislator was honored to have been invited to the event by Kal Varughese and the organization’s president, George Thomas.
