Altmann and Fellow Majority Lawmakers Approve Mortgage Tax Revenues

Nassau County Legislator Lisanne Altmann (D-Great Neck) recently approved a resolution to disperse Nassau County mortgage tax revenue to the County’s 64 incorporated villages at the November 7 meeting of the full legislature. The following villages will receive: Great Neck ($157,171); Great Neck Estates ($72,075); Great Neck Plaza ($149,111); Kensington ($27,874); Kings Point ($180,799); Lake Success ($131,775); Munsey Park ($67,606), North Hills ($149,422); New Hyde Park ($60,578); Plandome ($43,611); Plandome Heights ($19,732); Russell Gardens($24,186); Saddle Rock ($22,150); and Thomaston ($48,303).

“I am delighted that we can continue to offer our fiscal support and cooperation at a time when the villages really need it,” Altmann said.

In other news, the legislature also approved an appropriation of $218,927 to fund the Office of Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs’ Homeless Intervention Program. These funds, from the New York Office of Temporary Disability Assistance/Homeless Intervention Program, will provide supportive, empowerment ­based case management services to families and individuals who are homeless and to those in danger of becoming homeless. 

“It is important, especially as cold weather approaches, that we do everything we can to make sure everyone has a warm bed at night,” Altmann said. “These funds allow us to tackle homelessness in Nassau County and try to improve the quality of life of those residents that truly need it.”

Other supplemental appropriations approved by the legislature included:

• $2,916,368 from the NYS Department of Health to provide nutritional services and food vouchers to women, infants and children who qualify under federal nutritional and financial need guidelines.
• $188,783 from the New York State Office for the Aging to serve low-income Nassau County residents who are 55 years or older, providing useful community services and fostering individual economic self-sufficiency through training and job placement.
• $180,494 from the New York State Office for the Aging to serve eligible low-income, energy vulnerable households that would benefit from weatherization and other energy conservation services.

The next legislative session will be on Monday, November 19th.
