Bosworth Encourages Computer Donations to Help Needy Students
Great Neck Teacher Refurbishes Used Computers and Donates Them to the Underprivileged
Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) is encouraging residents to take advantage of a local program that takes old, obsolete computers and turns them into valuable learning tools for underprivileged kids.
Jon Zimmerman, a science teacher at Great Neck North Middle School, has been collecting old computers, printers and electronics, refurbishing them, and then donating them to needy children. Zimmerman has donated more than 30 computers and is looking for residents of the 10th Legislative District to help.
“What Jon Zimmerman has done is a shining example of the generosity of Nassau County’s residents,” Bosworth said. “I strongly encourage residents to consider donating an old computer or printer instead of throwing it away. A child in need would benefit greatly.”
Zimmerman has dedicated machines to children in need in the Port Washington area, as well as to Centro Cristiano Renacer, a Freeport church. Zimmerman wipes all hard drives and makes any necessary repairs before giving away a computer. Donors also receive a tax receipt.
