Legislator Bosworth Says: “Anti-Text Messaging While Driving Law Effective December 28”
Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) reminds you that the new Anti-Text Messaging Bill comes into effect on Sunday, December 28, 2008. This piece of important legislation makes it illegal to text message while operating a vehicle; violators will face a fine of $150.
“I am proud to be part of an initiative that underscores the dangers of text messaging while driving. As we engage more fully with ever changing technological advances, we must make sure that we are not endangering either ourselves or the lives of others.” said Legislator Bosworth.
The bill which was initially introduced by Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury), was passed unanimously by the Nassau County Legislature in the hopes of raising the public’s consciousness of the inherent dangers of texting while driving. The increasing popularity of text messaging creates a new distraction for drivers, inevitably decreasing their awareness, slowing reaction time and creating a dangerous situation for themselves and other motorists.
