Free Tax Return Preparation at the Massapequa Public Library

Presiding Officer Peter J. Schmitt is happy to announce that AARP volunteers will be available to assist seniors (and others) with their State and Federal tax filings starting on Thursday, February 3rd at Central Avenue and on Friday, February 4th at Bar Harbour.

To have AARP help on your State and Federal tax filing you must bring a picture ID, last year’s tax return, W-2 forms, 1099 forms and any other pertinent records. You must also bring the amount of your property taxes from 2010 and fill out an intake and interview form.

Please note: The AARP tax preparers will begin preparing forms with itemized deductions (Form 1040, Schedule A) starting on March 3, 2011. Forms with itemized deductions cannot be completed by them prior to that date.
