Homeowners Do Not Have to Pay a Fee to File Property Tax Forms: A Message to all Homeowners

            It has come to my attention that certain companies are sending out mailings to homeowners offering to file STAR Exemption forms on homeowners’ behalf for a fee – as high as 100% of the exemption obtained.            

            Please be aware homeowners may file applications for STAR Exemptions (as well as other property tax exemptions) with the Nassau County Assessor’s Office for free.  You do not need to pay a fee or have a company complete the forms for you.

            Please visit the County Assessor’s website to view and print brochures application forms for exemptions.  Applications for the STAR Exemption are due by Jan. 4, 2010.
