Schmitt Says “NO” to Fee Increases
Legislator Peter J. Schmitt led the Nassau County Republican Legislators, and even coaxed one lone Democrat, to vote to defeat a bill which would increase fees for Nassau County Fire Marshal regulatory services.
Presented to the full Legislature on April 25, the proposed legislation would require local businesses, large and small, to pay higher fees for permits, certificates, applications, approvals and licenses to remain compliant with the requirements set forth in the Nassau County Fire Prevention Ordinance.
“This is yet another attempt by the Democrat Majority to take money out of the pockets of Nassau County residents to fill budget gaps. Many small businesses are already having a hard time paying the fees required to comply with the County’s Fire Code, and cannot continue to pass these costs on to the local consumers. The taxpayers should not have to pay more just because the Democrats have a looming deficit for next year,” said Legislator Schmitt.
