Mejias holds hearing on wage & health care concerns for union workers

The SEIU, Local 32BJ and the cleaning industry in New York City, Westchester, Rockland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, and DC have raised the standards for workers by fighting for higher wages and benefits.  Unfortunately, the majority of building maintenance workers on Long Island are paid below the sub standard wages established in the industry and few have any real meaningful benefits.

“This hearing has brought to light that Long Island’s building maintenance workers are earning an unfair, substandard wage,” Legislator Mejias said. “It’s time for Long Island to catch up to other regions in the metro area in the fight for fare wages for workers.”

If you have questions or comments please feel free to call Legislator Mejias’ office at 516-571-6214 or contact SEIU Long Island Political Director, Hildalyn Colon-Hernandez, at 551-655-5247.
