Legislator Mejias was honored along with Centre Island Mayor Jack Williams and Old Westbury Gardens for their tremendous strides in protecting the health, safety, sustainability and economic viability of Long Island’s resources.
“I am truly honored to be recognized by the League of Conservation Voters for my efforts to protect Nassau County’s environment,” said Legislator Mejias. “I pledge to continue to fight for legislation that will take care of our environment so that residents can enjoy it for years to come.”
NYLCV Long Island Chapter Chair, Michael White said, “We are delighted to honor Legislator Mejias, who has played a significant role in helping to pass legislation and obtain funds for restoring, improving and protecting Nassau’s environment. Legislator Mejias has made tremendous strides in protecting the health, safety, sustainability and economic viability of Long Island’s natural resources.”
In his short tenure, Legislator Mejias has aggressively served up a large list of environmental accomplishments. He has authored several laws including banning the sale of arsenic treated wood for residential use, a county tax exemption for home solar power systems, dramatically increasing fines for all terrain vehicles on county property, and fines for encroaching on parkland by constructing buildings, fences, wall or other structures. Legislator Mejias has also strongly supported and advocated for the county purchase of more “green” renewable energy.
