Legislator Dunne Says NO to Home Energy Tax

Over the objections of the nine Republican members, a new Home Energy Tax was passed in a 10-9 vote by the Democrat Majority on the Nassau County Legislature.  The Home Energy Tax will now impose a 2.5% tax on all residential heating and energy sources.  This includes: LIPA usage, natural gas, oil, steam services, propane, coal and even firewood.  This tax applies to all residents of Nassau County, including seniors.

“This is unfair to our residents in this time when people are losing their jobs and are having a tough time just making ends meet.  This is not the time to add any new taxes,” said Legislator Dunne.

Despite Legislator Dunne’s opposition, the tax was passed and will take effect no later than June 1, 2009.
