Jacobs and Team 516 to Take on Suffolk Contingent in Crohn's and Colitis Fundraiser

Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) leads team 516 against Suffolk County Majority Leader Jon Cooper (D-Lloyd Harbor) and team 631 in a friendly competition to determine which County can raise more money during the “Guts and Glory Run/Walk” a charitable event benefiting the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

The stakes are high, as Presiding Officer Jacobs will be putting up a pie from Young’s Farm against a “Taste of Suffolk” gift basket from his home county. To the winner go the spoils.

“This event is shining the spotlight on a disease that doesn’t get mentioned a lot, but affects millions of American lives,” Jacobs said. “What better way to encourage fundraising than a friendly wager featuring Long Island’s two counties putting up the best they have to offer?”

Crohn’s and Colitis are both diseases that affect the digestive system, and feature symptoms such as weight loss, malnutrition, nausea and can affect the growth and development of children. Research into the causes, cures, prevention, and clinical treatment of Crohn’s and colitis, also known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and related nutrition problems continues with the support of public and private institutions at all levels.

The Guts & Glory Run/Walk, sponsored by the Long Island Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, is a 5K journey through Massapequa’s Marjorie Post Park with the goal of raising $200,000.
