March 20, 2001 LEGISLATOR MANGANO VOTES FOR CHILD SAFETY LEGISLATION
County Legislator Edward Mangano (R-Bethpage) voted to support legislation requiring children under the age of 14 year to wear child safety helmets when using foot powered scooters and skateboards. There is legislation currently in place that requires children to wear safety helmets while riding their bikes or in-line skating. "Medical experts agree that wearing a safety helmet will not only prevent serious head injury, but can prevent a fatal injury as well," said Legislator Mangano. "I am pleased to be able to support this legislation which will save lives. I urge all adults to set a good example for their children and wear a safety helmet while engaging in these activities." The legislation now goes to the County Executive for his approval. |
