Yatauro Requests Independent Audit of County Clerk's Office
Nassau County Legislator Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove) is requesting a second, independent audit of the Nassau County Clerk’s office after Comptroller Howard Weitzman indicated that his initial audit was incomplete during a hearing last week to explore possible accounting irregularities in the Clerk’s office.
“Comptroller Weitzman noted that, due to circumstances beyond his control, his audit of the County Clerk’s office was not as comprehensive as it should have been,” Yatauro said. “Because of this, I am requesting appropriations be made by County Executive Tom Suozzi for a second, independent audit.”
The Clerk’s office is responsible for $14.9 million dollars of Nassau County’s money and $285 million dollars of New York State’s money.
“While I have the utmost confidence in Comptroller Weitzman’s office and that of the Legislature’s Office of Independent Budget Review, an office with control of $300 million of taxpayer funds needs a thorough and complete audit,” Yatauro said. “The people of Nassau County deserve as much.”
