| August 5, 2004 Yatauro: ‘Flooding relief is on the way for Bayville Road.’
Legislature approves $3 million project to raise portion of road Nassau County Legislator Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove) was pleased this week when Rules Committee members unanimously approved a contract for Hawkeye, LLC of Patchogue for a long-awaited project that will reduce the frequency of tidal flooding at the intersection of Bayville Road and Bayville Avenue. According to Legislator Yatauro, Bayville has been waiting 11 years for this project. The committee members approved the contract 7-0. “This important project will offer some relief from flooding and also increase safety for the residents of Bayville and other communities who use this road,” Yatauro said. “I assure residents that these changes will in no way alter the esthetic beauty of Bayville Road and the county will not be performing work during the busy high traffic, summer months.” Bayville Mayor Vicky Seigel, as well as local civic groups and area merchants, have been anxiously awaiting this much-overdue project, Legislator Yatauro said. The project will raise the road at the intersection by approximately three feet above the 50-year storm elevation and reduce the frequency of tidal flooding.
