Legislator Dave Denenberg Calls for Spring Cleanup of

Veteran’s Monumentsand Parks Before Memorial Day

Let’s “Maintain Our Monuments”

Spring is here and Memorial Day is less than three weeks away. Legislator Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) as Vice Chairman of the Legislature's Veterans' Committee, joined by Nassau County Parks and Recreation Commissioner Jose Lopez and Deputy Director of Veterans Affairs Pat Yngstrom, has announced the county's spring cleanup of its Veterans Monuments, and other monuments and parks. Legislator Denenberg further called upon local governments, community groups, youth organizations and volunteers to join the county's efforts cleanup, beautify and maintain local monuments and parks in preparation for Memorial Day.

Legislator Denenberg commented “What better way to show our deep appreciation for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country than to make sure that the monuments and parks dedicated in their honor are well maintained and beautified. Let’s use these next couple of weeks to make our community look as good as possible in tribute to those who gave their lives to preserve freedom and the American way of life.”

Nassau County Parks and Recreation Commissioner Jose Lopez added, “The maintenance of our Veterans Memorial Plaza has always been a priority of the Nassau County Parks Department. It is the site of many military and veterans ceremonies and events throughout the year. Through cooperative effort with many veterans groups, we proudly keep the monuments in this plaza in pristine condition as a fitting tribute to all who sacrificed and served our country – to keep us all safe.”

“My goal is that when children, seniors and families enjoy parades, picnics and/or a walk through the neighborhood, our communities, its parks and monuments look as good as possible. As veterans and others lay wreaths and pay respect to fallen heroes at our many monuments, the conditions at the monuments should reflect our pride in our veterans and their sacrifice as well as the selfless dedication of our fallen heroes,” concluded Legislator Denenberg.
