Legislator Dave Denenberg Honors Eileen Casazza

Nassau County Legislature’s 2011 Trailblazer of the New Millennium

The Bellmore community retains its suburban charm and unique beauty despite its proximity to Sunrise Highway because of the dedication of time and resources given abundantly by Eileen and her neighbors. As vice president of the Bellmore Preservation Group, Eileen spearheaded the opposition to a proposed White Castle drive-through with ingress/egress on a residential street. Eileen and her steering committee met with Legislator Denenberg to voice their concerns. Before long, the group had distributed flyers, held informational meetings, organized a petition drive and collected funds to retain legal counsel. Thanks to Eileen’s and her group’s the tireless efforts and perseverance, this coordinated opposition at the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals proved fruitful. The board rejected the White Castle proposal giving Eileen, her group and the Bellmore community a true victory. Eileen continues to work on various civic issues and is currently working to beautify the Bellmore LIRR train station and to designate the Joan Stevens House and former Bellmore LIRR ticket house as historical landmarks.
