Legislator Denenberg Says Reserve Early for a Picnic Area at a County Park

February 10, 2006

Mineola, NY – Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) today announced that picnic reservations for the coming season can now be made at Nassau County’s parks.

Reservations may be made from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week at: Cow Meadow Park in Freeport (571-8685); Wantagh Park (571-7460); and Nickerson Beach Park in Lido Beach (571-7701). Reservations can be made at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford (571-7470) Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow (571-0348) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Special Activities Building, located at parking field #8.

“Nassau’s Parks offer a relaxing atmosphere surrounded by nature where visitors can congregate with friends and loved ones and utilize the fields available for sports and recreational activities,” Legislator Denenberg said. “I highly recommend that any residents interested in enjoying a picnic in the great outdoors at any of our beautiful parks call and make a reservation as early as possible.”

Reservations must be made in person at park locations. A valid Leisure Passport and appropriate payment (fees depend upon group size) must be presented to obtain a confirmed reservation. Payment may be made by cash or check. Rain or shine shelter areas are available at Cedar Creek Park, Nickerson Beach Park, and Wantagh Park.

County regulations require that 75 percent of all picnic participants be Nassau County residents. A special permit is required for the use of alcoholic beverages. This permit must be purchased at least one week in advance of any reserved or unreserved picnic. To make catering arrangements, patrons must contact the park concessionaire: Dover Caterers, 631-933-4444, ext. 12.  Picnic reservations must be secured from the individual park before catering can be arranged.

For further information, call the individual park or the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums at 572-0200.
