Denenberg and Fellow Lawmakers Approve Agreement for Fire Monument and New Traffic Pole
Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) sponsored, provided for, and led the approval of two inter-municipal agreements to assist the North Merrick Fire Department with the purchase and installation of a new fire monument, and the Bellmore Fire Department with the installation of a new traffic pole and light.
“These two projects will not only celebrate the fine work our fire departments do, but also make it easier to do it,” Denenberg said. “I am happy to approve these measures and look forward to the wonderful service both the North Merrick and Bellmore Fire Departments provide for our communities.”
The county will contribute $5,000 towards a 5-foot tall monument honoring the volunteer firefighters who have served the community of North Merrick. The monument, to be dedicated in May 2007, honors members of the department’s Engine Company 1, Engine Company 2, Rescue Company, Fire Police Company, and Hook & Ladder Company.
The Bellmore Fire Department will receive $15,000 for the installation of a traffic pole and light in front of the stationhouse at 2670 Bellmore Avenue. The light will increase traffic safety near the station, especially during emergencies when fire vehicles and personnel are deployed.
