Minority Affairs EEO AA
What is Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Affirmative
Action (AA)?
The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity is involved
in various activities. It monitors personnel changes
and procedures, handles internal complaints of discrimination
or harassment, files annual reports with the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission (EEOC), sponsors a job bank, participates
in an annual job fair and insures Affirmative Action
compliance in all contracts.
EEO Mission Statement
To ensure the rights of all employees to be free of
discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace.
To actively promote mutual respect in the workplace
throughout Nassau County is our goal. This office must
take measures to inform and educate its workforce and
to establish effective mechanisms that will investigate
and address instances of such discrimination and harassment.
It is our objective to ensure that no employee is retaliated
against for making a complaint resulting in any form
of discrimination or harassment.
EEO/AA - How They Differ?
EEO - It is a fundamental belief that all persons
should be free to pursue the work of their choice,
and advance in that work based solely on their qualifications
and performance. It is fair and unbiased chance to
compete on equal ground for jobs and contracts, and
to be treated equally in regards to benefits, terms
and conditions.
AA - Positive steps taken to promote equal opportunity by remedying
the effects of past discrimination, and removing artificial barriers to equal
opportunity.
