EEO Complaint Procedure
Nassau County is committed to EEO in
the workplace. It is our goal to avoid discrimination
or harassment at all costs. To aid in this process, we
have provided a detailed complaint handling procedure
for employees who believe that they have been adversely
affected by illegal employment discrimination. The County
maintains a commitment to EEO, including the neutral,
independent investigation and resolution of discrimination
complaints.
The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity is responsible for insuring that County
Agencies and Departments are in compliance with federal, state and county equal
employment mandates. We accomplish this work through training, complaint handling
and technical assistance. An identified group of EEO representatives from within
the County workforce will assist in the administration of this process.
Supervisors and managers can contact the EEO office for an explanation of the
many complex discrimination and EEO laws, or for guidance on how to deal with
potential discrimination or workplace harassment issues. Individual employees
may also contact the EEO office for information or to request assistance in resolving
discrimination or harassment complaints.
Employees also have the option to take complaints directly to state or federal
equal employment compliance agencies. However the objective of the EEO office
is to help resolve concerns rapidly and efficiently in order that assistance
from an outside agency may not be necessary.
Should you have an equal employment concern please telephone Mary Elisabeth
Ostermann of the EEO office at 516-571-6176 or 516-571-0513.
