About TLC

The Nassau County Taxi and Limousine Commission was established in order to regulate the registration of for-hire vehicles operating in Nassau County.  This authority empowers the Commission to take action enforcing the registration requirement across the industry as well as the rules and regulations necessary to ensure a fair, safe and pleasant riding experience for all passengers.


The Commission, while operating under the auspices of the Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs, is truly a countywide intergovernmental effort.  The Commission is comprised of 10 members - 1 from the Office of Consumer Affairs, 1 each from the Towns of Hempstead, North Hempstead and Oyster Bay, 1 each from the Cities of Glen Cove and Long Beach, 1 representative for the 64 Villages in Nassau and 3 industry representatives.  The members of the Commission meet regularly and are actively engaged in soliciting input from the industry and riding public who wish to improve taxi, limousine, and other for-hire vehicle safety and service in Nassau County.


Commenting on the State law permitting the registration of for-hire vehicles by Nassau County, Consumer Affairs Commissioner, Roger C. Bogsted, stated “this law will enhance the safety of the riding public by helping to ensure that only legitimate, licensed companies transport consumers to their desired destinations.” According to New York State Senator Charles Fuschillo, “it is vital that riders know which carrier is safe and which carrier isn’t; it is also important that those companies who follow the regulations are given proper credit.”  In a geographic area devoid of subway service and therefore more reliant upon the for-hire vehicle industry, the Nassau County Taxi and Limousine Commission is providing a valued service for the residents of Nassau.
