Hazard Mitigation General Information

The Nassau County Office of Emergency Management is in the process of finalizing the 2014 County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update as required by FEMA in collaboration with the stakeholder community.

We are currently focused on incorporating requisite data updates from all participants and have requested immediate submission of hazard mitigation data packages in order to be included in the Nassau County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update. Our priority and mandate is to ensure the Plan is inclusive of all stakeholders wishing to participate, as the consequence of non-participation is the potential loss of federal funding for future hazard mitigation projects.

In order to be a participant in the Nassau County Hazard Mitigation Plan, updated mitigation data worksheets MUST be completed and returned to us as soon as possible. These documents are contained in the “Hazard Mitigation Data Update Worksheets” tab on the right.

We invite the residents of Nassau County to review the DRAFT Plan documents and complete the Public Survey. Any comments regarding the Hazard Mitigation Plan Update should be directed to HazMitPlan@nassaucountyny.gov or (516) 573-0636.

Stakeholder update 6/13/14:

Please note that we are still waiting on the official APA document from FEMA/NYS regarding the Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Any board resolutions to adopt the county plan should be submitted to Nassau County OEM through the hazmitplan@nassaucountyny.gov email address.

Please understand, the approval we received at this point has only been verbal and we are still waiting for the official document. The resolutions must be dated post the date of that official letter. As soon as we receive this official document from NYS we will forward it to you. Additionally private-not-profits need not adopt resolutions.

NCOEM is to receive the resolution , create an internal file, and add it to the plan draft. We will then forward to NYS / FEMA. Questions or comments should be directed to NCOEM only. The plan can be viewed online at this site.
