Hurricane Evacuation Shelters

Over the past several months, the Office of Emergency Management has worked closely with the Nassau County American Red Cross Chapter to pre-position essential shelter supplies in storage trailers at select locations that will serve has hurricane shelters. The Red Cross will only open the hurricane shelters based on the availability of volunteers and when essential supplies are in place. For this reason, you may be instructed to bypass the shelter in your community and go to an opened shelter in another community. It is important that you listen to the messages we will give to the media and follow the instructions so that you do not go to a shelter that's not opened.
