Office of Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs
Nassau County's Office of Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs (OHIA) is known for the important Federal programs it oversees, such as Section 8, Home Investment Partnerships (HOME), Emergency Shelter and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). These programs are funded through the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and they support OHIA's goals of providing decent housing, suitable living and expanded economic opportunities for low and moderate-income people.
OHIA is especially committed to supporting communities in the county that have heretofore been underserved. County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi is working to help them establish a stronger economic base by leveraging federal resources to revitalize their downtowns. he's doing so because he knows that strong downtowns are vital for economic development. They strengthen the local tax base, and provide a sense of community.
