Lakeside Theatre Hosts "100 Years of Broadway" on August 20
Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre becomes center stage on Friday, August 20, for a nostalgia-filled musical revue featuring some of the greatest Broadway show-stoppers of the past century, announced Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
With a cast of Broadway actors and actresses, producer Neil Berg’s “100 Years of Broadway” includes standards by composers such as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Frank Loesser. Among the shows that are incorporated into the evening’s entertainment are "The Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables,” “Cats,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Jersey Boys.”
"This isn’t just a taste of Broadway,” says Berg. “It’s a full sampling of the century. If you go expecting a heavy dose of plot, you’ll leave disappointed — it’s essentially a musical revue. But that’s not to say it’s lacking in story. In fact, ‘100 Years’ is as much about stories as it is songs.”
The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre is located near parking fields 6 and 6A in Eisenhower Park. Special accommodations are available for disabled patrons, including reserved parking, easily accessible restrooms, and a convenient reserved location on the hill. Assistive hearing devices are available for the hearing impaired. There is no formal seating at Lakeside Theatre, so concert-goers are urged to bring folding chairs. If weather conditions are doubtful, call (516) 572-0355 after 7 p.m. for updated performance information.
Eisenhower Park is located in East Meadow with entrances on Hempstead Turnpike at East Meadow Avenue and at the intersection of Stewart and Merrick avenues.
