Nassau County Golf Courses Shift to Winter Schedule

Winter weather may be here, but the County continues to provide ample opportunity for golfers to work on their games, with four courses and all three driving ranges remaining open through the season, as weather allows. All the courses open at around 7 a.m. during the winter.

At the Eisenhower Park golf facility, the 18-hole Blue and White courses will be open seven days a week (the Red course closed for the season on December 8). The par-72 Blue course was designed in 1951 by Robert Trent Jones, a major 20th-century architect of American courses, and measures 6,026 yards. The White course, designed in 1950 by Jones, is 6.932 yards. Centrally located in East Meadow off Merrick Avenue, 930-acre Eisenhower Park is the flagship of the Nassau County Parks system. For Eisenhower golf information, call 572-0327/28 (all phone numbers are “516” area code).

The County also runs four nine-hole courses, two of which will remain open in winter: Cantiague Park, an 1,878-yard, par-30 course off West John Street in Hicksville (571-7061); and North Woodmere Park (571-7814), a par-31 course that at 2,282 yards is the largest of the County’s nine holes. The nine-hole courses at Bay Park in East Rockaway and Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn-North Hills close for the season on December 20.

All three of the County’s driving ranges remain open in winter seven days a week. They are located in Eisenhower Park (572-0336); Cantiague Park (571-7082); and North Woodmere Park (571-7814). The Cantiague Park facility has heated and covered stalls.

To reach North Woodmere Park, take Belt Parkway to Rockaway Boulevard. Take Rockaway Blvd. (Turnpike) to Peninsula Boulevard. Make left onto Peninsula Boulevard and take to Branch Boulevard. Make a left on Branch and follow it around to the right. Just after it turns right the park entrance is on the left.
