Eisenhower Park Provides Free Round of Golf for Vets on Veterans Day
In recognition of Veterans Day, County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi has announced that all County veterans and active-duty service personnel will receive a free round of golf on Veterans Day (November 11) at the Blue Course in Eisenhower Park. Eligible golfers can choose to play nine or 18 holes.
To be eligible, golfers must present proof of Nassau County residency and either military identification (for active duty) or discharge papers (veterans); a Nassau County Veterans Leisure Passport is also acceptable. This offer involves walk-up games only (no reservations), and all other charges (such as golf cart fees) will apply.
The Blue course, one of three 18-hole golf courses at Eisenhower Park, was designed in 1951 by Robert Trent Jones, a major 20th-century architect of American courses. Born in England in 1906, Jones emigrated to the U.S. as a youngster and ultimately embarked on a career that saw him create or remodel some 500 golf courses throughout the U.S. over the span of seven decades.
The Blue course measures 6,026 yards from the middle tees and 5,705 yards from the forward tees. Eisenhower Park also has two other 18-hole courses (the championship Red and the White) and a driving range.
Centrally located in East Meadow off Merrick Avenue, 930-acre Eisenhower Park is the flagship of the Nassau County Parks system. The park offers an extraordinary variety of recreational opportunities, including a swimming pool and fitness center at the world-class Nassau County Aquatic Center; mini-golf; a batting cage; athletic fields; playgrounds; a 2-mile fitness trail; basketball and tennis courts; bocci and lawn bowling; and the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre. In addition, the park includes large and beautiful memorials to the nation’s veterans and victims of the 9/11 attacks.
