Parks Department Offers One-Day Sign-Up Sessions in June for New Summer Recreation Program
NEWS BRIEF: Due to strong demand, sign-up for the Summer Recreation Program has been extended beyond June 15th.
The Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums is providing special one-day sign-up sessions in June for the new Summer Recreation Program, announced Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. The sign-ups will take place in the four parks in which the program is operating.
The program, designed for children ages 5 through 12, runs from July 6 through August 12, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is just $450 for one child and $400 and $350 for a second and third child, respectively, from the same family (maximum fee for families of three or more is $1,200).
For the convenience of parents, the sign-up sessions are being held evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wantagh Park on June 8; Cantiague Park in Hicksville on June 9; Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn-North Hills on June 10; and Nickerson Beach Park in Lido on June 11. The final registration date for the program is June 15.
“Whether they’re at Cantiague, Christopher Morley, Nickerson Beach or Wantagh, children taking part in Nassau County’s Summer Recreation Program can count on real summer fun,” says Mangano. “With so many children signed up so far, I encourage families to sign up soon before the program gears up!”

A typical day in the program can include such activities as arts and crafts, board games, and recreational sports like baseball, soccer and flag football. The program will also incorporate special events like scavenger hunts and food days. The County is employing a team of teachers and recreational specialists to oversee the program. The Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums has announced the start of a new Summer Recreation Program designed for children from age 5 through 12, divided into four separate age groups.
The program will run weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. from July 6 through August 12 and costs $450 for one child, $400 for a second child and $350 for a third child in the same family (maximum $1,200 per family).
The program will be held in four parks:
"These beautiful parks provide perfect settings for youngsters to enjoy a range of activities, including recreational sports and crafts," says Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. "The geographic range also allows us to place this service within reach of many communities."

Please note that children must bring their own lunches and beverages. The county will not supply food or drinks.
