Campgrounds

The Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums manages two campgrounds, both of which require reservations. A driver’s license is required upon registration, and applications for individual campers must meet campground criteria for occupancy, age, identification and type of camping shelter. Organized youth groups are welcome. Both sites offer “early-bird” registration.

Comprising 44 acres of campground and dense woods, Battle Row is an ideal place to relax with family and friends. Battle Row has 64 campsites ranging in length from 40 to 45 feet, with more than half of these equipped with water and 30amp/125-volt electric hookups.


South Shore

Nickerson Beach Campground

Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, this 121-acre park offers the lure of beaches, swimming and numerous other athletic and family activities. In addition, Nickerson provides a campground with 74 sites for RVs and 12 for tents (available for Nassau County residents and guests only). Water, sewer and electrical hookup are available. Leisure Pass holders receive resident rate.

Battle Row Campground to Stay Open During Winter

The Battle Row campground in Old Bethpage will remain open throughout the winter season, announced Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi. The county’s second campground, at Nickerson Beach Park in Lido, will close for the winter on November 29 (reopening around April 1, 2010).

Battle Row Campground, located on Claremont Road, offers a wooded and quiet 44-acre site with 64 campsites ranging in length from 40 to 45 feet. More than half of the campsites are equipped with water and 30amp/125-volt electric hookups.

Located on the Atlantic Ocean, the Nickerson Beach campground has 74 sites for RVs and 12 for tents (available for Nassau County residents and guests only). Water, sewer and electrical hookup are available. Nickerson Beach Park itself, located on Lido Boulevard, is 121 acres and offers numerous activities, including basketball and a state-of-the-art playground.

2010 Nickerson Beach Park Early Bird Campground Registration Information

Nickerson Beach Park's early bird registration for the 2010 campground season will be held on Saturday, February 6, at 8 a.m. Nassau County residents with a valid Leisure Pass will be accommodated first. The lottery process will operate as follows:

  • Each patron will get one lottery card to fill out. There is only one entry per household.
  • Fill out the lottery card with your name and valid Leisure Pass number. Leisure Passes must be obtained by Nassau County residents before filling out the lottery card. Nassau County residents can obtain a Leisure Pass in the main office or any other Leisure Pass location.
  • The lottery cards are to be placed in the lottery box after they are filled out. The cards will only be accepted on the day of early-bird registration.
  • At approximately 8:30 a.m., the reservation process will begin. Each lottery card will be drawn to determine the order in which reservations are taken.
  • When your name is called, you will be able to make a maximum of two campground reservations for yourself only.
  • All reservations must be made in person. No phone reservations will be accepted on that day.
  • All other reservations can be made in person or by phone when the office opens.
  • Please note that no one will be permitted to stay overnight at the park in anticipation of early-bird registration.
