November 20, 2009

“Safe and Sound:  Fall Prevention and Home Safety”

The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs will present a workshop entitled “Safe and Sound:  Fall Prevention and Home Safety,” on Friday, November 20, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

William O’Keefe, PT, MS, Assistant Professor, Physical Therapy Assistant Program, Nassau Community College, will lead a discussion on identifying physical signs that place seniors at risk for falls, exercises to improve strength, and safety-proofing each room in the home to prevent falls and keep older persons safe in their communities.

This program is part of the Department’s series of Gerontology Workshops 2009.  It will be hosted by the Gerontology Institute at Hofstra University and will be held at Hofstra’s Hagedorn Hall. Older persons, their caregivers, professionals in the aging network, and members of the community at large are invited to attend this workshop, which will be offered free-of-charge.  Advance registration is required.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  For more information and to reserve a seat for this workshop, please call the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs at 227-8951.   The entrance to Hagedorn Hall is on Uniondale Avenue.
