Nassau County’s Agency Serving Older Persons Has A New Name

On June 6, 2011, the Nassau County Legislature approved the consolidation of 4 county agencies into the new Department of Human Services.  These agencies are Senior Citizen Affairs; Physically Challenged; Youth Board; and Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities.

Effective immediately, Senior Citizen Affairs will have a new name:  Nassau County Office for the Aging (NCOFA).  The Office for the Aging, as identified in the federal Older Americans Act, will remain the local recipient of federal, state, and local funds that have been designated to provide services to older persons and their caregivers.

The Office for the Aging remains a valuable resource for all persons interested in obtaining information about programs and services that are available for older adults.  Senior citizens, families, caregivers and professionals are encouraged to visit the Office’s web site or to contact the Office by telephone, FAX, mail or e-mail for assistance.
