BUS TRANSPORTATION
The Nassau County Senior Citizen Leisure Passport entitles senior citizens age 60 and over to half-fare on all county operated buses at all hours, seven days a week. Medicare cards are also acceptable for identification. An aide traveling with, and assisting a wheelchair bound passenger, pays only half fare for a round trip at all times. Transfers can be obtained for 10 cents and are valid for two connecting bus routes in the same general direction. Click here to obtain the Leisure Passport

SHOPPERS' BUSES
Some communities provide shoppers' buses for senior

The following are services provided by the Towns and Cities:
City of Glen Cove: Food shopping transportation for seniors available through the Glen Cove Senior Community Service Center. Call: 676-6182
City of Long Beach: Shoppers travel at half fare. For scheduling information, call the "Shoppers Special:" 431-1000 Ext.326
Town of Hempstead: Contact the Department of Senior Enrichment for dates and times at local centers. Call: 485-8100
Town of North Hempstead: Food shopping buses serve most communities. Seniors must complete a transportation application and have a Town of North Hempstead Senior ID Card. Call: 869-7715
Town of Oyster Bay: Food shopping is available in some communities. Contact the Oyster Bay Senior Community Service Center for information: 922-1770
NEW YORK CITY SUBWAYS AND BUSES
The Medicare card is the official identification, enabling persons 65 years of age or older to ride New York City subways and buses at half fare, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The half fare privilege is not available on express buses during peak periods, 7 to 9 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
To use the subway: Present Medicare card at change booth, pay cost of one way fare to receive a token and a ticket. For the return trip, present the ticket at the change booth. This must be used within three months of original purchase.
To use the bus: Present Medicare card and pay half fare. You are also entitled to a free transfer. In addition, click here for information on the Metrocard

LONG ISLAND RAILROAD
Senior citizens age 65 and over may use their Medicare card, driver's license or birth certificate at any ticket office or aboard a train to receive half fare on the Long Island Railroad except for trains arriving in N.Y.C. between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on weekdays. The railroad reserves the right to ask for additional personal identification or a signature sample. For information, call:
