The Tax Records department of the Treasurer's Office maintains all records of, and collects payments on delinquent Nassau County Property Taxes. For the Towns of Hempstead, North Hempstead and Oyster Bay, this includes both the full General Taxes and School Taxes. The City of Glen Cove handles their own School Tax delinquencies, so only delinquent General Taxes are paid with the Treasurer. General and School delinquent taxes are also collected for the City of Long Beach, however only the County Portion of the General Tax.

General Taxes become delinquent after the last day of February (1st half) and the last day of August (2nd half); School Taxes become delinquent after the last day of November (1st half) and the last day of May (2nd half). There are no exceptions to this rule unless the last day falls on a holiday or weekend, in that case the last day will be the following business day. The General Taxes are collected by the Treasurer starting September 1st, and the School Taxes are collected by the Treasurer starting June 1st. At the end of each year the Treasurer holds a public auction to sell all unpaid delinquent taxes in the form of Tax Liens at Tax Lien Sale.

Delinquent tax payments for the 2012 taxes are not accepted at the Nassau County Treasurer at this time.  You will need to contact the Receiver of Taxes at the town in which you reside to make payment of the 2012 taxes.

In June 2012, the Treasurer’s Office will, at that time, have the 2011/12 school tax rolls and delinquent tax payments will then be accepted after June, 2012.  In September, 2012, we will have the 2012 general taxes and delinquent tax payments will be accepted after September, 2012.

Delinquent taxes can be paid either in person or via mail. Delinquent tax payments can also be made with a credit card beginning in July, 2012.  Credit card payments will be accepted through February 1, 2013.  ACH/electronic check payments will also be accepted but will be discontinued on October 31, 2012.   After October 31, 2012, delinquent taxes can only be paid by credit card, certified check, bank check or cash.  Tax Liens can not be paid with a credit card. To pay by mail, all payments must be sent to the Nassau County Treasurer, 240 Old Country Road, Mineola, NY 11501. Make all checks payable to the Nassau County Treasurer (certified check or cash only when paying a Tax Lien or if paying delinquent taxes during the months of November through May). To pay in person, please come to the 3rd floor at the above address where you can pay by regular check up to October 31, 2012, certified check or cash.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS OF DELINQUENT TAXES ARE NOT BEING ACCEPTED AT THIS TIME.
