Memorial Fifty-Nine Years Over Due
May 29, 2004, the American people will finally recognize
that one generation actually did save the world. At
2:00 PM on that day the President of the United States,
George W. Bush will open the dedication ceremony for
the National World War II Memorial. The D.C. tourist
office told me all hotel rooms in the city are full
and the producers of the event said all available tickets
were given away many months ago. Hundreds of thousands
of veterans and their families are expected. If you
don't have a ticket there are at least two alternative
sites to be part of this historic moment.
The American Legion is planning an event that begins
at 11:00AM at Times Square, New York City and culminates
with the live broadcast from D.C. of the dedication
ceremony. Nassau County's Veterans Service Agency along
with the Cradle of Aviation is hosting Nassau County's
Recognition of the National World War II Memorial.
A presentation of commerative certificates to the World
War II Veterans will begin at 1:30PM at the Cradle
of Aviation. A large screen broadcast of the D.C. activities
will follow. Tickets are limited but free. Call the
Veterans Service Agency at 516-572-8452 to request
tickets. World War II veterans are asked to provide,
name, rank, and serial number, and branch of service.
Family members are especially welcome.

Nassau and Suffolk Veterans Posts
Hurt
In 60 of New York's 62 counties veteran's posts are
charged residential rates for their single-phase electric
use. Only in Nassau and Suffolk veterans organizations
must pay higher rates to operate their buildings. The
New York State Assembly tried to correct this in 2003
but the Senate let the bill die in the Energy and Telecommunications
Committee. The bill A03796 passed the Assembly again
this year with only one no vote and was referred to
the Senate as S 2331. On February 2, 2004 the Senate
again referred the bill to Energy and Telecommunications
Committee where it sits.
