Information You Can Use

Comparable Properties

You may compare your assessment with your neighbors' assessment or with any other property in Nassau County. The assessment roll is a public record. So is the property record card for each property in the county. You may inspect them during business hours. For a small fee, you may purchase a copy of your own or any other property card in Nassau County.

Thinking of Purchasing a Home -

If you are thinking about buying property, you should check its property record card to make sure that the card lists all the construction details. Homes are NOT automatically reassessed upon transfer of title. If actual home improvements do not match the property record card, the purchaser's property taxes could change subsequent to update of Assessment Department records.

The property record card also tells you whether the present owner has property tax exemptions. If so, the property taxes the current owner is paying may be lower than the taxes you may pay.

Tax Maps -

The Department is also responsible for maintaining and updating nearly nineteen thousand official tax maps of Nassau County. Tax maps show the dimensions and location of each piece of property. They also show which taxing jurisdictions it's in. You may purchase a copy of the map for your block or any other for a nominal fee.
