(Mineola, NY) Board of Assessors Chairman Harvey Levinson today announced that the New York State Office of Real Property Services (ORPS) has awarded a $500,000 grant to Nassau County in recognition of the Board of Assessors' and Administration's commitment to perform annual reassessments.
In announcing the $500,000 grant, State officials at ORPS commended Mr. Levinson and the Administration for their commitment to providing quality assessment practices that "meets the highest standards set by the State." The grant awarded was computed on $5.00 per parcel for each of Nassau County's 406,780 qualifying properties and is the maximum amount allowable under current State aid guidelines. In order to meet the requirements of the grant, Nassau County agreed to maintain assessments at a uniformed percentage of the fair market value of properties on a yearly basis as part of a six-year plan. Currently, Nassau County is in the third year of the New York State Supreme Court monitored reassessment project.
"I am delighted State officials recognized that Nassau County is moving in the right direction," Assessor Levinson concluded. "As the Director of Real Property Services for the County, I pledge that I will continue to work each day to improve the accuracy of the values placed on every property."
