Thank you for taking time to write to my office. As the new Comptroller I appreciate and look forward to comments and ideas from constituents.

The article you enclosed with your letter referring to governments in other parts of the country filing for bankruptcy is very insightful and is definitely not the path we want Nassau to go. My office will look into the various departments that receive taxpayer money as part of my goal to ensure all of them are providing services as efficient as possible. Whenever we find waste and abuse we will make sure to follow up and if needed report our findings to the proper authorities.

Last week my office issued audit letters to the Tax Assessor's Office, the Information Technology Department, the Department of Social Services and the Nassau Health Care Corporation. We feel that there are millions of dollars in these areas that can be saved.
